Q&A

Where is home?

I currently reside in Oakland California, and I spent much of my life in the Midwest. However my Eritrean lineage and community have felt more like home than any one place.

Where have you been learning and training?

  • Certified Somatic Coach through Strozzi Institute

  • Associate Certified Coach through International Coaching Federation

  • MBA from the University of St. Thomas with a certificate in Transformational Change and Organizational Development

  • BA in Psychology from Carleton College

  • Trained facilitator through Technology of Participation

Why do I practice somatics?

I found myself living in my thoughts, experiencing burn out and illness, not feeling settled in myself, and longing for something else. Somatics brought me back to my body and my own wisdom. I started to feel more alive, more connected to myself, more connected to my friends and family, and more clarity with what I wanted.

What are you curious about right now?

I’m really curious about the ways culture passes through the body and how we can access more joy, love, and connection.

How are you currently staying connected to your body?

I’m listening to Eritrean and Ethiopian music, walking outside, dancing and right now a lot of Cuban salsa, and practicing somatics.

What does Mussie & Co. mean to you?

My father’s first name and my last name is Mussie. Mussie & Co. means that I am because they are. I am because of the company, collective, and community that came before me, are with me, and will be with me as I journey through life. It reminds me that this life is not one we do alone.
